Windows Update - chyba 0x80070643

Oddíl pro obnovu systému se stává častým vektorem útoku, takže se MS rozhodl jej pravidelně aktualizovat. Pravidla pro jeho tvorbu se ale během let měnila, takže pokud máte letitou instalaci systému, tak se vám může stát, že lednová aktualizace se vám odmítne nainstalovat, protože je oddíl menší než 250MB.

Popis problému

Obnovovací oddíly nejsou tvořeny s fixní velikostí, v případě Windows 11 mají tyto oddíly od 500MB do 700MB.

Problém se týká zejména lednových aktualizací KB5034440 pro Windows 11 a KB5034441 pro Windows 10, které opravují chybu CVE-2024-20666.

Tato chyba umožňuje bypass Bitlockeru, právě přes oddíl obnovení (WinRE). Pro zneužití této chyby by byl nutný fyzický přístup k disku a ani tak se mi nepodařilo dohledat více detailů. Micrososft tedy chybu opravil, ale na staších instalacích OS se aktualizace nenainstaluje právě z důvodu chybějícího místa v rcovery oddílu a ve widndows update zůstane tato chyba viset s chybou 0x80070643. Řešení

Skrytí aktualizace

Microsoft po měsících slibů rezignoval a jediné co nabídl je automatizovaný nástroj na “opravu”, který nedělá nic jeného, než že aktualizaci skryje.

hide-update

Rozšíření oddílu

Pomocí tohoto Powershell scriptu můžete obsah obnovovacího oddílu zazálohovat bokem, rozšířit jeho velikost a nechat jej znova vytvořit.

Script je sice přímo ze support.microsoft.com, ale za jeho funkčnost nijak neručím.

  • Zkopírujte následující script a uložte jej např. jako Resize_script.ps1
